What happens after you book a parcel?
You hand the parcel to the courier. And then the worrying starts. Did it go? Will the money come? Come, let's follow the parcel.
First, you get a number
You tell the courier who it is going to, at which address, and how much to collect. The courier says fine, and hands you a number. That number is no small thing. Anyone you ask about the parcel will want it first.
Someone from the courier comes for it
Booking a parcel does not send it running. The courier looks over the booking first. Then they send someone, and that person takes the parcel away. Your part is done for now. Now you wait.
Through the hub, into the rider's hands
The parcel goes to a hub first. A hub is a bus stand for parcels. Which one goes to Mirpur, which one to Sylhet, gets settled there. Then a rider sets out with a bag on the shoulder. Before reaching the door, the rider calls the customer: “Apa, are you home?”
The story ends one of three ways
Delivered
The customer took the parcel and paid. Everyone is happy.
Partly delivered
Kept two of the three shirts, sent one back. It happens.
Not delivered
The customer did not take it. Or never picked up the phone. The parcel is coming home, a little sad.
The road your money takes
With cash on delivery, the customer pays the rider. The rider hands it in to the courier. The courier keeps its charge and sends you the rest. The money's trip takes a little time. Patience.
One thing, though
When the rider writes “delivered”, do not open the account book just yet. The courier checks it first. Once they confirm, then you count.
When a parcel comes back
Couriers call it a return. Nothing to feel bad about. It happens in every shop.
- Give the customer a callNot to be angry. Just to ask what happened. Often they simply were not home.
- Back in stock only once it is in your hands“Returning” means the parcel is still on the road. You do not count what is still on the road.
- Sending it again? Book it freshThe old booking has done its job. It will not work twice.
