Will this parcel come back?
An order comes in. You're pleased. You sit down to pack it. Wait a minute. It takes one minute to check whether this parcel will reach the customer, or come straight back to you.
Why parcels come back
Nobody really ordered
They changed their mind
Wrong or half an address
A returned parcel costs you twice. The fare there, the fare back. And for days the goods ride around town. Not sold, not on your shelf either.
Look at the courier's record
A courier keeps a thick record book. Which number got a parcel, and whether they took it or sent it back. Not only for your shop: for every shop that uses that courier. Ask your courier to look up the customer's number. Steadfast shows it right in its merchant dashboard.
Read what the record says
Most were taken
58 taken, 5 came back.
Send itMany came back
4 taken, 6 came back. Three shops complained too.
Call firstNot in the book
Never got a parcel from this courier.
Call firstNot in the book does not mean safe.
It only means nobody knows yet. Treat a new number the way you treat a worrying one. Give them a call.
One call before you ship
- Picks up
- Remembers what they ordered
- Says the address clearly
A real customer picks up, and remembers the order. If nobody answers after two tries, put the parcel aside for now and try again later. The parcel isn't going anywhere.
Put a mark in your own book
After every order, give the number a colour. Green, yellow or red. When the same number orders again, you know before you've tied the packet.
